International Usability Testing

Usability testing is often required across a number of different countries in order to test your web site or product properly.

Our consultants have extensive experience on international usability testing projects, having planned and managed tests of web sites, video games, mobile applications and software throughout Europe and the United States. We have access to an extensive network of usability professionals throughout the world, including partner usability companies and usability freelancers, depending on your requirements.

Benefits of this service

Below is a list of areas we can help you with when it comes to international website usability testing:

  • Sourcing of usability companies in the countries you want your web site or product tested
  • Sourcing multiple quotes from partner companies
  • Managing recruitment of participants within each country
  • Producing a task list and liaising with countries to identify market variations
  • Gathering video highlights with edited subtitles from each territory
  • Co-ordinating simultaneous translation where required
  • Standardised report templates across each country
  • Facilitating a presentation of the findings at a country level
  • Facilitating a summary presentation at the end of the testing at a global level

The approach

We follow industry best practice and international standards on usability and we agree with you in advance detailed test plans and task lists. We use experienced testers who are familiar with a range of products and systems and have local knowledge at the relevant country level.

The process

We recruit a representative sample of your audience. These participants are asked to perform a series of tasks using your site that are typical of those a user would attempt in the real world. While performing the tasks at our state of the art usability facilities, the participants are observed and recorded.

During the usability testing participants are instructed to think aloud at all times. If they ever fall silent for more than a few seconds they're encouraged to keep talking. Our usability testers are expertly trained to ask questions and elicit thoughts in a non-biased and neutral manner. Afterwards participants are interviewed to gather further information about their experience.

We can also combine our lab based usability testing with our Remote user testing service on your project to increase the number of countries covered in the test or to increase the sample size.

The deliverables

We would typically look to deliver the following to your organisation as part of the usability testing that we run.

Usability Report - that describes the purpose of the study, a description of the procedures, a summary of the findings, and perhaps most important, the significant themes that emerged within and between testing sessions.

Video highlights - edited video clips of the most informative parts of the tests.

Presentation - an oral presentation communicating the most important findings and recommendations.

Ben Logan delivered a Web Accessibility course for the Citi and Egg Digital Experience Design, Web Content Management and Creative Teams to build the teams' understanding of the latest Accessibility issues and web best practice in this field. Ben's course was well-structured, interactive and engaging. Throughout the course he demonstrated both his subject matter expertise, and his enthusiam for the subject, building a strong rapport with the group. I would not hesitate to recommend Ben's Web Accessibility and Web Usability training services.
