Macmillan cancer support - case study
Challenge to meet
Macmillan produce many Adobe PDF publications each year and are a very active not-for-profit organisation in the Accessibility space. Having discussed Accessible PDF tagging with them and how PDF documents can be made to be Accessible with the right care and attention were were commissioned to tag a variety of publications for them.
What we did
We developed a one day in-house training course on the tools used internally to update content and combined this course material with some best practice usability tips. The overall skill level was introductory rather than some of the public and in-house courses we have delivered for other organisations.

How this was achieved
We took several of their recent printed publications and used a manual tagging approach to tag the documents for Accessibility, giving the document semantic structure in terms of headings, lists, paragraphs and tables.
We then tested the outcome with a selection of end users including visually impaired users with screenreader products (Jaws 7 and Jaws 8)
We also made sure the documents passed the inbuilt Adobe Accessibility checker in version 7 and 8 of Acrobat professional
Benefits and outcomes
Macmillan received several tagged PDF documents from us as well as an edited DVD of the footage of the user during the testing session to present back to management. These particular publications are nov available so visually imparied users can benefit by being able to listen and navigate through the content.
Testimonial
Spotless Interactive helped us with converting existing PDF materials into well structured, tagged documents that could be read by a visually impaired user with a screenreader. This was delivered within a tight timescale and to budget and also a DVD was provided of the testing.
