Challenge to meet

LIDA was Founded in 2000 by CEO, Lisa Thomas and employs 85 people. LIDA is part of the M&C Saatchi Group and its core disciplines are direct, digital and integrated marketing

LIDA came to us with a brief to audit a site for one of their existing clients Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. Their client wanted to know where they sat in terms of web Accessibility compliance.

What we did

We performed a thorough audit of 40 key template pages against the Web Content and Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG) and also against the Section 508 Standards over in the United States of America. We conducted user testing also with disabled users in order to establish further results beyond our expert review.

How this was achieved

We used our manual testing techniques as well as tools such as the AIS toolbar to form part of our expert review.

We performed an accessibility review of the key template pages against the Web Content and Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG) against priority level 2 (AA). We recruited users with visual impairments with similar demographics to typical users of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. Testing was conducted in our lab using Jaws screenreader. We also reported against the Section 508 Standards and our detailed reporting included colour contrast results for the developers to refer to.

Benefits and outcomes

Both LIDA and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group had a clear understanding as to where their site sat in terms of Accessibility compliance against the WCAG priority level 2 (AA).
