Carbon Trust - case study

The Carbon Trust's mission is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy, by working with organisations to reduce carbon emissions now and develop commercial low carbon technologies for the future. They were setup in in 2001 and have been instrumental in helping companies calculate their carbon footprint.

Challenge to meet

We were asked to assess several key template pages for accessibility compliance on their new Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 platform and where possible suggest remedial work on the items we identified.

What we did

We performed a manual inspection of the source code using a standard web browser and used lightweight tools such as the W3C Online HTML and CSS Validators, AIS Accessibility Toolbar and AIS Colour Contrast Analyser (based on WAI algorithm) as part of our technical testing.

We also performed a JAWS screen reader expert review using JAWS 10.

How this was achieved

We gathered requirements and performed the manual testing using the Web Content Acccessibility Guidelines 2.0 as a checklist and also provided further guidance and prioritsation of the results as required by the Carbon Trust.

We were also tasked with writing the company accessibility statement for the website.
